Caroline Powell is a three day eventer and Olympic medal winner, and has been a valued part of the Classic Showjumps team since 2012.
Located in Suffolk where she rides, teaches and trains her up and coming competition horses, New Zealander Caroline began her equestrian career years earlier with her first pony, Mouse.
After visiting a friend in the UK years later, Caroline travelled up to Scotland after hearing about a job vacancy at the Storey’s point-to-point yard. After 2 year, she moved on to Ian Stark’s competition yard, working as a groom and the rest, as they say, is history!
In 1996, Caroline travelled with Ian to the Atlanta Olympics and shortly after, set up her own yard in Kelso where she operated until her move to Suffolk in 2012.
Caroline is probably best known for her pairing with the ‘pocket rocket’ Lenamore (stable name Ed) with whom she won Burghley Horse Trials in 2010, and a team bronze at the London 2012 Olympics. The gutsy little grey retired in 2013, but Caroline showed no signs of following suit. With a stable full of young, talented horses – many of which she has brought and produced herself – Caroline is still at the top of her game and again hopes to represent New Zealand again at 2016’s Olympics in Rio.
The next set of star studded hooves set to come out of Caroline’s stable is 16.2hh liver chestnut Onwards and Upwards. Flash – as he’s known on the yard – has proven himself on the competition sector this summer, and with Burghley Horse Trials to look forward to later this year, the team at Classic Showjumps wish Caroline the very best of luck.
