Rachel Horton is an amateur rider currently competing in British Show Jumping and has been a part of the Classic Showjumps team since 2012.
Having been around horses all her life, she didn’t actually start riding until age 10. She started out with an 11.2hh schoolmaster called Fred, who put her through her paces and “taught her everything she knows.”
Rachel was a member of the Beaufort Pony Club and used to compete in local unaffiliated shows in the summer and hunt in the winter, with the Beaufort Hunt.
Rachel currently has four horses that she competes, from British Novice up to 1.30m: Quidelle, Patrick, Beanie & Bob.
Rachel and Quidelle, a Selle Francais, jumped their first international show at Bolesworth in June 2015 and did amazingly well – taking home a 2nd and two 3rds out of four classes, jumping against some top names. The pair has since qualified for the Silver League semi-final which will take place on August 9th, 2015 with the top 7 qualifying for HOYS – so their aim is to try and qualify to jump at this fantastic show again.
Patrick is 6 years old, and is coming along really well. This cheeky fellow is learning new tricks everyday with the help of Classic Showjumps, and will be competing in the show jumping team event at Gatcombe Horse Trials on August 7th.
4 year old Beanie is just starting out on her riding career, and Rachel can’t wait to start jumping her over the Classic Showjumps courses. Being very destructive with feed buckets, it’s lucky she has a Classic Showjumps one as it’s the only one she can’t break!
Warmblood Bob is slowly coming back to work after having a sore back, so is currently doing lots of pole work. He is jumping in at Hickstead and then the PC Championships in August, so fingers crossed he is back to his normal winning self by then.
